Hello and welcome to my December blog – the last for 2019!
I can’t believe this year is nearly over but looking back, me and my pals here have had such a lot of fun and a few of us were reminiscing the other evening at bedtime and having a few chuckles. Puck was remembering the time Dec had his tusks filed down and then staged a lie-in because he was so cosy toasty under all the horse blankets they covered him over with. But the next morning the whiff of a couple of carrots won him over and Dec was back with us once again.
Arthur, my feline pal, chuckled about the time he thought he would go for a ride in Maggie’s car but was rumbled when she got down to the end of the lane and was brought back. He said he could have kicked himself because if he hadn’t sat up to see himself in the mirror, Maggie wouldn’t have been any the wiser and he would have gone a lot further probably to her house!
Buddy reflected on his time at the West Chiltington show during the summer and at the Findon Sheep Fair – quite the celebrity! We had to remind him though of the time he ran through the barn gate just as someone was opening it and ran up and down the little track behind the fields, much to his pals’ delight who were urging him on! “I didn’t get told off though” he said. “No” I replied “but you still shouldn’t have done it as the volunteers had to stop what they were doing to try and coax you back to your stable”. Buddy did have the good grace to look sheepish.
The best news was two little ducklings born in August – everyone was so excited when we heard their first little quacks as nothing like that has happened here before and we all celebrated well into the night!
It was lovely to see so many people at our Sunday afternoon openings (which we will have again next year) and also at our Autumn Fayre, especially as the weather wasn’t very good.
We all have such fun here and are well fed and cared for - all made possible not only by our band of volunteers who turn out in all weathers, 365 days a year to tend to our needs and make a fuss of us all but also to you the public who donate because without you we simply wouldn’t have this safe environment in which to spend our days . . . so THANK YOU!
On behalf of all my pals here at the ABC, the volunteers and the Trustees we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Love and purrs
